What started as a goat farm in the heart of Petaluma Gap has transformed into an award-winning winery that honors both the land's history and its exceptional terroir. This is the story of transformation, sustainability, and the pursuit of winemaking excellence.
Long before our first vine was planted, this land in Petaluma Gap was home to a thriving goat farm. The rolling hills that now host our vineyard once echoed with the sounds of grazing goats, whose careful management of the land unknowingly prepared the soil for its future as a vineyard.
When Doug and Judy first saw this property, they recognized something special—not just in the land's natural beauty, but in its potential to express the unique character of the Petaluma Gap. The decision to transition from agriculture to viticulture was driven by respect for what came before and excitement for what could be.
"We didn't just want to make wine—we wanted to honor the land's history while creating something that expressed this special place." - Doug & Judy, Founders
The Petaluma Gap AVA is where cool Pacific coastal air meets warm inland sun, creating a unique microclimate perfect for growing world-class wine grapes. This natural phenomenon, caused by the gap in the coastal mountains, provides the long, cool growing season essential for developing complex flavors while maintaining bright acidity.
Our 15-acre estate sits at the heart of this AVA, where morning fog rolls in from the Pacific, afternoon breezes keep temperatures moderate, and the extended growing season allows our grapes to develop complexity and character. It's this terroir that makes our wines distinctive— particularly our award-winning Riesling.
Behind every bottle of Deodora wine is a dedicated team passionate about sustainable winemaking, terroir expression, and creating exceptional wine experiences.

Minimal intervention, maximum expression. We believe the best wines are made in the vineyard, with the winemaker's role being to guide and protect the natural character of our grapes.
Great wine begins with healthy, balanced vines. Our low-yield approach prioritizes quality over quantity, allowing each vine to develop concentrated, complex flavors.
We guide rather than manipulate, using traditional techniques and minimal additives to preserve the authentic expression of our Petaluma Gap terroir.
Exceptional wines require time. From careful harvest timing to extended aging, we never rush the process of creating wines worthy of our terroir.
Our 2019 Riesling's historic achievement—becoming the first Riesling ever to win Best White Wine at the North Coast Wine Challenge—validates our approach and demonstrates what's possible when exceptional terroir meets thoughtful winemaking.
Our commitment to sustainability extends far beyond organic practices. We're stewards of this land, ensuring it remains healthy and productive for future generations.
We actively partner with local conservation organizations to protect and restore the natural habitat surrounding our vineyard. These partnerships help preserve the biodiversity that makes the Petaluma Gap ecosystem so special while creating wildlife corridors that benefit the entire region.
